Unsure if you would rather have the intimacy of a river cruise or the amenities of an ocean cruise? Celebrity Cruises recently released 11 European river and ocean cruise packages, including the 16-night Southern France Sonata with Greece and Turkey itinerary.
Celebrity Cruises partnered with Amras Cruises for the river portion of the tour, which travels through Southern France along the Rhône River. The 16-night trip through Europe spends seven nights aboard the river cruise through France with stops in Lyon, Viviers and Avignon. Guests then stay two nights in Athens, Greece, before departing aboard the Celebrity Equinox for a seven-night tour around the Mediterranean.
The Rhône River Cruise portion includes nine guided tours, including a walking tour through Lyon – a UNESCO World Heritage Site full of medieval treasures. Other highlights include tastings at local wineries, a visit to the oldest cathedral in France, chocolate tastings and a walk through Avignon, the walled medieval city known as the “City of Popes.”
An included flight to Athens, Greece, begins the second portion of the tour. Celebrity Cruises’ City Highlights Tour introduces groups to bustling Greece before departing on a voyage to coastal towns in Greece and Turkey. In Greece, passengers will visit the ruins of the Temple of Venus in Rhodes, the whitewashed villages of Mykonos and Santorini’s sanctuary of Apollo.
The ship also stops at two ports in Turkey to visit the Temple of Hadrian and the Temple of Artemis in Kusadasi, and the Grand Bazaar and Topkapi Palace in Istanbul.
