Bucket List Itinerary: A Wilder Side of Cuba

Coastal caves, exceptional botanical gardens and rare birdlife make a trip to Cuba more than just an old car photo op on a new Cuban itinerary. Natural Habitat Adventures’ “Undiscovered Cuba” itinerary allows participants to engage with the culture, people and nature of the mysterious country with trips to both the iconic Havana and lesser-known national parks.

The 12-day tour features one-on-one visits with Cuban hosts, including a traditional pig roast at a Trinidad residence and a tour of the Vinales National Park by a Cuban biologist and conservationist. In Vinales National Park, 250-million-year-old limestone mountains lie filled with caves that connect into the largest system of caves in Latin America.

A botanist helps the group identify tropical flora and fauna at the Cienfuegos Botanical Garden for a look at the unique plants and animals of Cuba. Guests can explore a diversity of habitats at the Zapata National Park, an UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Groups will also hunt for wildlife sightings in Zapata, including crocodiles, rare woodpeckers and other intriguing bird species. Other highlights include a dance class, an organic farm tour and nights spent at colonial-style hotels throughout the tour.
