Cultural Attraction Coming to Cave City

CAVE CITY, Kentucky – The creator of the Lebowski Fest seeks to create another pop culture attraction in Cave City, Kentucky, called Funtown Mountain. Will Russell decided to renovate the road side attraction formerly known as Guntown Mountain Wild West to preserve a piece of Americana.

The existing structures and the Haunted Hotel, one of the country’s oldest continuously operating haunted houses, will be renovated to return to their former glory. Funtown Mountain will undergo renovations with a scheduled opening set for summer 2015.

The Haunted Hotel will be restored and expanded. In October 2015, the Haunted Hotel will host the state’s largest Halloween party. The 2015 opening will also feature the Sky Lift, a refitted chair lift bringing patrons to and from the mountain’s top. Additionally, a miniature golf course called Puttin N Kentucky will feature original artwork by regional artists.

Later in 2015 and 2016, a new Hillbilly Tea Shack and Funtown Souvenir Shop will offer Kentucky souvenirs and other locally designed works of art.

Russell plans to open even more attractions on the site in 2016, included the Lucky Lady Saloon for live musical and theatrical performances. A zip line, theater, treetop village, forested area for sculptures, amphitheater and pop culture museum remain in the plans for 2016 and beyond.
