Going On Faith Conference Pays off for Albany

SALEM, Ohio — Southern hospitality is taking on a whole new meaning for groups that visit Albany, Georgia. The Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau is going all out to invite travel groups to experience the destination and its special brand of Southern hospitality.

The Albany CVB and its spokesperson, Katie Corley, have discovered an age-old secret: Invite groups to visit and they will come.

Corley attended the Going On Faith Conference in September and has already had two groups visit her city as a result. That comes as no surprise to Valerie Dennison of The Group Travel Family, management company for the Going On Faith Conference.

“When I saw Katie’s enthusiasm, it was obvious that groups would visit Albany and have a great time,” she said.

While staff enthusiasm is a plus, destinations must also develop tourism packages. The Albany CVB has hit a home run in this respect. The CVB is happy to match groups with such local tour packages as Paula Deen’s Hometown, Historic Churches, Sherwood Movie Set and Fun Albany. The bureau also offers extended-stay programs, including Taste of Southwest Georgia and Food Faith Fun for faith-based travel groups.
