Six years ago, I attended a medical conference in Seattle with my husband. After the meeting was over, we jumped on a seaplane to Friday Harbor for a couple of days. I felt very adventurous in taking the seaplane instead of the ferry and was rewarded with amazing views of the San Juan Islands and Mount Rainier.
We stayed at the Friday Harbor House Hotel and enjoyed walking into town to enjoy shopping, dining and the marina. The city also has a shuttle service that will take you all over the island, including a stop at a lavender farm. We booked a whale-watching charter and saw a pod of whales, bald eagles, sea lions and seals. It was nature at its best.
The last night we sat outside on our hotel patio enjoying the sunset over the marina, and I remember saying to my husband, “I wish every day was like today.”
