EdVenture Children’s Museum

Columbia, South Carolina

The largest children’s museum in the south, EdVenture is a 92,000-square-foot facility with nine permanent exhibits. Marketing communications manager Kristy Barnes said the museum’s mission is to help kids experience the joy of learning, and parents are encouraged to play alongside their children.

The favorite exhibit is “Eddie, The World’s Largest Child.” At 40 feet high, Eddie is a model of the human body that children can explore by climbing his vertebrae into his brain, exploring his stomach and learning about other parts of the human body.

Maker Works is EdVenture’s newest exhibit and celebrates the maker movement in which students learn to take risks and create outside the box. Barnes said that the children enjoy being creative, whether learning about using recyclable material to create art or learning sewing machine skills.

“It’s a very unique exhibit, one that not a lot of children’s museums have,” Barnes said. “It teaches kids that you don’t have to go out and buy everything, that you have the ability to make and create.”

Even more exhibits are offered on pets, cooking and the great outdoors, making the museum a diverse and in-depth learning experience for children.
