SAN FRANCISCO — The Exploratorium, San Francisco’s museum of science, art and human perception, reopened April 17 in its new $300 million facility at Pier 15, at the heart of the revitalized San Francisco waterfront.
The new location improves visitor access and increases the size and scope of the museum with three times more space overall than its former home at the Palace of Fine Arts, where it had been for 43 years.
There are 150 brand-new exhibits among the nearly 600 exhibits in six indoor and outdoor galleries. For the first time, the Exploratorium expands its investigations into San Francisco Bay, the city and outdoor landscape. The Bay Observatory has floor-to-ceiling windows that give views of the bay on one side and downtown San Francisco on the other.
