We asked our staff “Where do you yearn to escape to for a weekend trip?” Find out where we go to getaway from it all in this month’s Staff Sound-Off.
My wife and I both grew up on the lakes in Western Kentucky, and they will always be our favorite weekend getaway destinations.
— Mac Lacy, Publisher
I love to fly down to my best friend’s house in Dunedin, Florida, for long weekends.

A concert and hotel room or the lake
— Sarah Sechrist, Controller
I really like to be in a mountain cabin for a weekend getaway. It’s nice to disconnect a little and be surrounded by nature.
— Rachel Crick, Staff Writer
Hands down, it’s Stanford, Kentucky. I love to stay in one of the guest houses with The Stanford Inn at Wilderness Road; eat breakfast or lunch at the Bluebird Café; and shop at all the quaint local shops. Since it is such a small town, everything is in walking distance. Kentucky Soaps and Such, a local shop that sells goats milk soap, local pottery and Kentucky-made products is housed in the building where my great grandparents were married by the local Church of Christ minister who also worked at the department store that was once there. There is an amazing spa across the street from the café, and Danville and Berea are close by. My family is originally from the area, but it would be a wonderful place a girlfriend getaway, a church retreat, a family reunion (which we have had) or a nice stop along the way for a group touring Kentucky.
— Donia Simmons, Creative Director
I’m a big lake-weekend-with-friends kind of guy, no matter where that lake is.
— Kyle Anderson, VP, Sales & Marketing
Cincinnati wins out by the sheer number of trips since we go every month, but Atlanta has my heart. We head there a couple of times a year.
— Ashley Ricks, Graphic Designer & Circulation Manager
My wife and I had an amazing long weekend in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, last year. This picturesque village sits right of the Blue Ridge Parkway and has lots of hiking nearby.
