SALEM, Ohio — The group travel industry is discovering a growing segment of travelers in diversity markets, and one of the most reported areas of travel expansion is among African-American organizations and groups.
A survey from the African American Travel Conference (AATC) found that the average age of new group travelers in this market is increasingly including clients in their 40s and younger. The survey indicates that 30 percent of new people on tour are under the age of 50.
The report also shows that 80 percent of African-American groups are finding new and younger travelers.
“This is great news for the travel industry because these African-American groups are growing and bringing new and younger travelers on group tours,” said Charlie Presley of The African American Travel Conference.
The report also indicates that once younger travelers begin participating in group tours, they continue to be travelers. The average new group travelers take two tours with their group per year.
The African American Travel Conference will hold its annual meeting next month when travel clubs from more than 25 states gather in Cleveland April 21-23. The travel industry is invited to attend; contact Valerie Dennison at 800-628-0993 or vdennison@grouptravelfamily.com.
