Skylines and Street Scenes in New York City

Revisit the Whitney & the met

Groups looking to stay at the forefront of New York City’s thriving art scene should schedule a stop at the reopened Whitney Museum of American Art or the newly opened Met Breuer. Both museums highlight contemporary art in innovative ways with extensive collections, programs and interactive tours.

The Whitney Museum of American Art debuted its new building in the Meatpacking District in May 2015. The nine-story building greatly expanded the museum’s exhibition and programming space, which allows the Whitney to display more of its 19,000 works.

Guided tours can help groups appreciate the museum’s range of modern art media, such as painting, sculpture, photography, film and new media. Education programs, a conservation laboratory and a street-level restaurant and cafe also provide groups with more flexibility than before.

As soon as the Whitney Museum moved out, the Met Breuer moved into the museum’s former building with a public opening in March. The third building of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Met Breuer dedicates its gallery space to 20th- and 21st-cenutry art from around the world.

Exhibitions, performances and an artist-in-residence program strive to engage visitors more with modern art. The experience of the Met Breuer changes frequently to present numerous rotating exhibits. One of these initiatives, called “Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible,” displays uncompleted works of art from the Renaissance to the present day. Guests can ponder what Picasso’s never-before-exhibited “Woman in a Red Armchair” would have looked like if ever completed.
