State spotlight: New Mexico

Southern Rockies
In the very northern part of New Mexico, the town of Angel Fire sits in the southernmost part of the Rocky Mountains. It’s there you’ll find Angel Fire Resort, a property that has made a name for itself by creating adventures for families and groups.

Given its mountain setting, it’s no surprise that Angel Fire is a premier ski destination during the winter months. When the snow melts, though, the mountain offers many outdoor activities. Groups can ride the chairlift to the summit — at an elevation of more than 10,000 feet — for views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. From there, a short wildflower walk or hike makes a great afternoon activity.

Thrill-seekers will find a variety of outdoor options at Angel Fire as well. The resort’s Zipline Adventure Tour is the only zip course in the state; on its dual “super zip” line, friends can race each other down 1,600 feet of cable at a height of more than 200 feet above the forest floor.
