Officials estimate visitation to Cuba will reach a new record breaking high in 2015. In 2014, the tourism numbers set a record at three million, and 2015 looks as if it will blow past that amount.
Already, two million tourists visited Cuba between Jan. 1 and July 10 this year, according to the Cuba Ministry of Tourism. Currently, the country has a 16 percent arrival spike between this year and 2014.
A surge of visitors from Canada, Germany, the U.K., Italy, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru and the U.S. contributes to the increase in visitors. U.S. tour operators offering people-to-people programs have reported increased demand, though no breakdown of U.S. visitors is available. Tour operators like Insight Cuba have added departures to existing programs to handle the increased interest.
