WASHINGTON — Tourism Cares hosted a painting project at the National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington Sept. 10.

More than 250 volunteers associated with the travel, tourism and hospitality industries assisted with much needed painting projects at 12 locations, including the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial and Lafayette Park.

“The event was a huge success,” said Bruce Beckham, executive director of Tourism Cares. “The weather cooperated, and everyone had a great time.”

Beckham estimated the project saved the financially strapped National Park Service more than $26,000. In addition, Tourism Cares presented a $20,000 check to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum.

Tourism Cares is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving natural, cultural and historical sites throughout the world.
