BOSTON — On June 1, the Freedom Trail Foundation launched a new Pirates and Patriots tour of the Boston waterfront.

The 90-minute tour, led by guides in 18th-century costumes, tells the stories of “landlubbers and jack tars, pirates and privateers, Tories and revolutionaries, impressed sailors and smugglers” who played roles in the development of Boston both before and after the Revolution.

The tour begins at Faneuil Hall Marketplace and winds through back streets and alleys of Boston’s waterfront, ending at the Congress Street Bridge.

It traces the ever-changing Boston harbor line, from the site of Town Cove — where ships were first docked and the present-day site of Faneuil Hall — to Long Wharf where pirates were brought to face justice to Griffin’s Wharf, site of the Boston Tea Party.
