Heartwood is an artisan center that represents 19 counties in the southern and western reaches of the state. The 30,000-square-foot facility bills itself as a gateway to the region and showcases the distinctive crafts, music and food that come from around the area.

The center is the headquarters of Round the Mountain, a regional artisan network, and numerous artists and craftspeople work at Heartwood. Visiting groups can meet and talk with demonstrating artisans and shop from a variety of local crafts, such as jewelry, glass and pottery.

Music lovers can also learn about the Crooked Road, Virginia’s music heritage trail. Heartwood presents regular performances and jam sessions with locals, who interpret the area’s rich cultural heritage through music.
