Viking To Sail on Mississippi River
Already cruising along river routes across the globe, Viking Cruises sets sail in North America for the first time on the Mississippi River in 2017. New Orleans will serve as the Viking’s homeport for its six new vessels scheduled for completion over the next three years.
The first two riverboats will deploy in 2017. The 300-passenger vessels will feature luxury amenities Viking’s cruise ships are known for.
“We are excited about the prospect of bringing modern river cruising to the Mississippi,” said Torstein Hagen, Viking River Cruises chairman. “Together with our U.S. partners, we take great pride in the economic benefit that river cruising provides to the regions our guests visit, from the shipbuilders to the local businesses.”
