BILLINGS, Mt. – Groups looking for a new adventure destination can surf down black volcanic sands and kayak past boisterous monkeys on Austin-Lehman Adventures’ first Nicaragua tour. Starting in 2013, the adventure tour operator will send small groups on the eight-day/seven-night “Nicaragua: Cerro Negro to San Juan del Sur” tour.
Dan Austin, founding director of the company, believes Nicaragua to be the next popular travel destination because it is similarly wild and unexplored as Costa Rica was 50 years ago.
“This is Austin-Lehman’s first foray into the wilds of Nicaragua,” says Austin. “We wanted to design a tour that offers a broad, behind-the-scenes look at Nicaragua’s extraordinary natural and cultural treasures.”
Guests on the tour will climb to the rim of Cerro Negro crater before surfing back down on its black sands with an ash board. Other activities include touring Leon’s cathedral, hiking Masaya Volcano National Park, kayaking the Asesse Peninsula and zip lining through the Mombacho Nature Reserve.
All accommodations on the tour were chosen for their cultural, environmental and historic significance.
