Though most people might not think gourmet wine tasting and a week-long rafting trip could have much in common, outfitter O.A.R.S. combined the two on their new “Middle of the Fork Salmon River” itinerary. The six-day Idaho trip is the flagship program in the company’s Wine on the River Series.
Chef-prepared gourmet meals, award-winning Idaho wines and days full of breathtaking scenery make the trip full of excitement and luxury. A chef accompanies the tour to provide a local and seasonal menu with entrees including grilled Idaho trout with wild blackberry/nectarine salsa, Rocky Mountain Elk steaks with zinfandel demi-glaze and caramelized shallots.
The tour includes a scenic flight to the river, five nights of comfortable camping, professional river and fishing guides and all white water rafting equipment. As the trip moves down the river, guests will raft past alpine scenery, green forests, waterfalls, clear creeks and caves decorated with Native American pictographs.
Two hot springs along the way give participants a chance to relax after braving the rapids for the day. Guides bring paddleboats and inflatable kayaks along on the trip in case guests want to try their hand at those during the trip.
