A trip to the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center transports guests back in time to the days of the legendary cattle drives.
Tour guides help guests start their adventure throughout the museum. A stroll to our animal diorama allows guests a glimpse of various animals the cowboys saw on their journeys up the trail.
Further into the journey, the 4D Experience Theater offers a multi-sensory adventure “on the trail” where guests see, hear, smell, and feel the movie. They can smell the bacon as “Cookie,” the chuckwagon cook, fries it up. They’ll even witness the unique experience of a cattle stampede during a thunderstorm.
Next, a visit to the Campfire Theater gives guests a chance to eavesdrop on Jesse Chisholm and Cowboy Tex, our two animatronics. Tex starts the show with a nice tune that guests are sure to be singing long after they leave, and the two discuss how the Chisholm Trail got its name.
The Campfire Theater
Guests are free to explore. In our interactive exhibit, guests can visit our Duncan General store – modeled after the original store built by William Duncan. Inside the Duncan Store, kids and adults can pretend they’ve been transported into the time of the cattle drives and stock up on rations for the remainder of their time on the trail.
Also in this exhibit, guests can climb in the genuine handcrafted leather saddle and try to rope “Hollywood” our longhorn steer. They can wander around a genuine chuckwagon for an up-close look, create their own brand at the branding station, and more.
Home to one of the finest Western Art collections west of the Mississippi, CTHC’s Garis Gallery of the American West, features an incredible collection of paintings, sculptures, woodworks, and more. While walking through the gallery, each turn provides art, both contemporary and historical. Works by Frederick Remington, George Catlin, Charles Russell, Allan Houser and regional and local artists of note are on display in the permanent collection.
Folks on the trail
In the gallery, each room has its own theme. The center of the gallery hosts our featured artist exhibits. These exhibits have featured weavings, bronzes, photography, paintings, drawings, ceramics, and more. Geronimo statue and Native art
Guests can also visit the outdoor bronze sculpture, ‘On the Chisholm Trail’ by Oklahoma artist Paul Moore. It is the largest bronze dedicated to the Chisholm Trail in the world. It’s the perfect location for a group photo.
