Dollywood’s Latest Roller Coaster Debuts
PIGEON FORGE, Tennessee — Lightning Rod, Dollywood’s new record-breaking coaster, debuted at the East Tennessee theme park in March.
Dollywood officials are billing the 3,800-foot Lightning Rod as the world’s fastest wood coaster and the world’s first launching wood coaster. Its 165-foot first drop propels riders to speeds of 73 miles per hour, while its twin summit airtime hills will provide nearly 20 seconds of airtime.
Located in Dollywood’s Jukebox Junction, Lightning Rod has hot rod-themed ride vehicles comprising 12 cars, carrying two passengers each, for a total of 24 people per train.
