My wife, Marcheta, and I have a Friday night ritual of dining with friends at the Beaumont Inn’s intimate Owl’s Nest Tavern, adjacent to our house in Harrodsburg, Ky.
We have gotten a firsthand view of how popular the Kentucky Bourbon Trail is. On numerous occasions, we have met people who are staying at the Beaumont Inn, a historic property with large white columns and antique-filled rooms, while experiencing the trail.
In the past year, we have met people from Vermont to Los Angeles, from Michigan to Florida. There have been people from England, France and Australia.
The most memorable encounter was last summer when a man from Orlando, Florida, and his son were sitting at the bar with us. The son was stationed at Fort Campbell in western Kentucky and was scheduled for deployment to Afghanistan in a couple of months. They were doing a father-son trip along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail before he left.
It was appropriate that a few months later, the Beaumont Inn was named a Kentucky Bourbon Trail sponsor.
