Mohegan Sun WineFest and BeerFest

Southeastern Connecticut’s 364,000-square-foot Mohegan Sun Casino puts well-crafted drinks in the spotlight during its annual Sun WineFest in January and Sun BrewFest in October.

Both events take place in Mohegan Sun’s 38,000-square-foot ballroom, one of the largest in the Northeast. The Sun WineFest, now in its 11th year, will be held January 24-26, 2014, and feature more than 1,000 brands in its grand tasting. Wine Enthusiast magazine will also present an elite tasting with winemakers from some of the world’s top vintages.

“The Grape Stomp is pretty popular, as is the oyster shucking and the chefs’ dine-arounds,” said Mohegan Sun’s public relations manager Cathy Soper. “It really depends on what people like; there’s so many highlights.”

Sun BrewFest, which ran October 4-6 this year, focused on craft, microbrew and limited-edition beers.

“The Saturday evening tasting sold out completely. We had over 6,500 people in attendance over the course of the two days,” said Soper.

To celebrate the second iteration of the festival, a new BrewBrunch on Sunday highlighted beer-flavored foods, from drunken beef goulash to pumpkin-wheat-beer ice cream.
