New “Star Wars” Programming Announced for Disney

Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, Darth Vadar and Darth Maul will thrill visitors this spring at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando. A new live stage show this spring and a new fireworks/laser show this summer will feature classic moments from the “Star Wars” saga.

“Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away” will debut on April 4 multiple times each day at the Center Stage area near the Great Movie Ride. That date will also begin the stormtropper marches at Hollywood Studios that will occur at various times each day. The new character Captain Phasma will lead a squad of the stormtroopers in formation across the park.

Fireworks will light the night sky this summer as part of the “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular.” Lights and lasers will project onto the nearby Chinese Theatre and other buildings depicting the twin suns of Tatooine and other references from the movies. The show will unfold through a series of acts and will feature a tower of fire and spotlight beams.

The new programming continues Disney’s continued growth of its “Star Wars” franchise at its theme parks. Star Wars Launch Bay debuted in December with themed galleries, artifacts and encounters with characters.

Disney previously announced plans for the two 14-acre Star Wars lands last August for the company’s largest single-themed land expansion in history.
