Tauck and BBC Earth to introduce nature-focused itineraries

NORWALK, Conn. – Tauck and BBC Earth, producer of “The Planet Earth” documentary series, have announced an exclusive, multiyear partnership to co-create a collection of nature-focused itineraries called Earth Journeys.

“Earth Journeys will help BBC Earth to connect with their millions of fans in exciting new ways, enabling people to now experience the natural world with all five senses,” said Dan Mahar, Tauck CEO.

Tauck will develop the 2014 Earth Journeys, while BBC Earth and Tauck will collaborate on the creation of brand-new 2015 Earth Journeys. For 2014, Tauck has announced two African safaris, an Antarctica cruise expedition and a polar bear adventure in Manitoba, Canada.

Original, exclusive films by BBC Earth will supplement the 2015 itineraries. Guests will view these 10- to 20-minute films on location for additional context on the region’s surrounding wildlife.

The 2015 Earth Journeys will utilize some of the same technology employed by BBC Earth filmmakers to aid Tauck travelers’ wildlife viewing experiences. These devices could include motion-activated camera traps, infrared night-vision cameras, long-range directional microphones, underwater cameras and small fiber-optic endoscopic cameras.

Tauck estimates that the Earth Journey itineraries will be priced one to two percent more than existing Tauck itineraries to cover the BBC Earth extra features and content.

Tauck, based in Norwalk, Conn., has previously partnered with Ken Burns, another acclaimed documentary production brand in 2010 for a collection of itineraries. BBC Earth’s productions of “The Planet Earth,” “Frozen Planet,” “Life” and other series have reached more than 500 million people in over 180 countries worldwide.
