Cedar Point
Sandusky, Ohio
Located on a lovely Lake Erie peninsula, Cedar Point has entertained guests since the late 1800s. Today, that tradition continues. More than half of the park’s 72 rides are family friendly, and Cedar Point is known as the roller coaster capital of the world.
In 2014, the Gemini midway debuted new games and two new thrill rides: the Lake Erie Eagles and the Pipe Scream. New on the list of the park’s 17 heart-pounding coasters, the Pipe Scream twists and spins as it flies 43 feet above the midway at 43 mph. Calmer rides abound, too. The giant Ferris wheel and sky ride gondolas give riders lovely views of Lake Erie. And any time of day, the complimentary one-mile sand beach welcomes guests who simply want to unwind.
“We’re really a resort with an amusement park, beach and hotel properties all rolled into one,” said Bryan Edwards, Cedar Point’s public relations manager. “People love to come here for the whole package.”
Recently opened, Lighthouse Point offers groups overnight accommodations at 52 deluxe cabins, just steps away from the park’s entrance gate. Cabins sleep up to 10 guests. Amenities include four flat-screen televisions, a dorm-size refrigerator, a microwave, a coffeemaker, an outdoor charcoal grill and a picnic table.
