WATERFORD, Va. – Groups can experience the personal stories and the haunting landscape of one of the most historically significant battles with a new travel itinerary for the Battle of Gettysburg’s sesquicentennial. Journey Through Hallowed Ground Partnership developed the 150th Battle of Gettysburg Commemoration package for history buffs seeking to learn more about the three-day battle.
Running June 30 through July 5, the tour stays five nights at the recently renovated Gettysburg Hotel. Guests will attend the Salute to the States Gala at the Gettysburg National Military Park and Visitors Center on July 1.
The gala will feature cuisines from various U.S. regions, a dance in a Civil War-era ballroom and living history performances by Confederate and Union Generals. Stephen Lang, a playwright, will also perform his solo piece “The Wheatfield,” before showing the world premier of a short film with the same name.
Groups will watch another recently released film on the Civil War called “Copperhead” on July 3 at the Majestic Theater. Other highlights of the tour include reenactments, lectures, tours, concerts and more.
Named as the Top Event for 2013 by the American Bus Association, the commemoration features hundreds of events. A welcome kit will be waiting in each group member’s room with an official Gettysburg travel guide, National Geographic Civil War map, commemorative tote bag and signed copies of the Blu-ray collectors box set of “Gettysburg” and “Gods and Generals.”
A limited number of packages is still available. For more information, visit www.hallowedground.org/gettysburg150.
