Enjoy a Shelbyville Escape (Sponsored)

Shelbyville is a fine escape plan for any visitor looking for a break. It’s a place where traditional small-town values and contemporary sophistication blend seamlessly to give visitors a mix of old world comforts with modern touches.

If you take the time to venture in on one of the two-lane highways (U.S. 60 or 55) that divide Shelby County, you’ll come upon true beauty in a display of color – the gentle rolling hills to the west, the narrow ridges to the east.

Saddlebred Capital of the World

Shelby County is known as the “American Saddlebred Capital of the World,” and for good reason. Visitors can watch from scenic roads as horses’ frolic in the numerous pastures spread throughout the county. But for a truly close-up experience, contact the ShelbyKY Visitors Bureau for information on how to schedule a tour at one of these working horse farms.

Fine Spirits & Fresh Food

Soil that produces great horses, it turns out, also makes for unique bourbon and fine wine. The Bluegrass Region is home to many distilleries but Jeptha Creed is in a class of their own. This family-owned and operated distillery offers a farm-to-bottle tour and tasting experience but its heirloom corn variety, “Bloody Butcher Corn,” is what differentiates it from other establishments. If your more of a wine fan, visit the tasting room of national award-winning Talon Winery both attractions offer free concerts.

Hungry yet? Try one of the atmosphere dining options serving up classic regional specialties. Nothing says Kentucky like fried chicken, and there’s serious competition among local restaurants. Claudia Sanders’ Dinner House, founded by Colonel Sanders and his wife in 1968, dishes up old-school meals for busloads of visitors. The Bell House Restaurant, a splendid remodel, offers classic and modern fare in an intimate setting. Bourbon Kitchen although younger, has made its mark with an eclectic menu and crafty cocktails.

Superb Shops & Galleries

And any visit to Shelbyville ought to include The Outlet Shoppes of The Bluegrass, save in 90 well-known designer outlets including Coach, Gucci, Nike, North Face, Vera Bradley and many more. For superb antiques try Wakefield Scearce Galleries home to an array of silver and beautiful home accessories. In fact, Shelbyville has developed a reputation for its many shops that offer furnishings, collectibles and crafts.

The ShelbyKY Visitors Bureau is a great place to plan your visit and gather information.
