Crawfish Farm Tours are available from March through May, the prime season for crawfish farming. These tours are designed for groups of 10 or more, making them perfect for school field trips, tour buses, and community groups. Advanced scheduling is required to ensure our farmers can accommodate your group and provide the best experience possible.
What to Expect on the Tour
Your journey into the world of crawfish begins at a working pond, where you’ll witness firsthand how these small but mighty crustaceans are farmed. Our farmers will guide you through the process, explaining the lifecycle of crawfish and the careful methods used to cultivate and harvest them. It’s a fascinating blend of science, tradition, and hard work – and you’ll leave with a new appreciation for the effort that goes into every pound of crawfish.
The second stop on the tour brings you to a working co-op facility, where crawfish are cleaned, sorted, and prepared for market. You’ll see the meticulous process of grouping and shipping the crawfish, ensuring they make their way from our ponds to tables across the region. It’s an eye-opening experience that sheds light on the local industry and the vital role crawfish plays in Louisiana’s economy.
The final stop on your tour is the famous Gator Chateau, a must-see attraction in Jeff Davis Parish. Here, you’ll not only learn about the American Alligator but also have the chance to hold a baby gator! The Gator Chateau is a rescue and education center dedicated to the preservation and care of alligators, offering visitors the opportunity to engage with these incredible reptiles up close.
