Brunswick and the Golden Isles

Courtesy the Golden Isles Convention & Visitors Bureau

A mix of British and Southern flavors colors the atmosphere of the scenic Brunswick and the Golden Isles. The mainland city of Brunswick and its four barrier islands lie halfway between Savannah and Jacksonville, Fla.

St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Little Simons Island and Jekyll Island are all known for their gorgeous landscapes of woodlands, marshes, beaches and oceanfront properties. Historic Brunswick retains the streets originally laid out before the American Revolution, with British names like Newcastle, Norwich and Gloucester.

Visitors can walk through The downtown district  to enjoy antique shops, historic buildings, art galleries and restaurants.

On Brunswick’s dock, groups can climb aboard the 49-passenger Lady Jane to catch some shrimp, as the locals do. The shrimp vessel takes passengers 20 miles offshore to hunt for shrimp and to sort through the catch of sand sharks, horseshoe crabs and puffer fish.
