On Sunday, April 11, The Group Travel Leader Inc hosted two annual events, the Travel South Classic Bowling Tournament and the Travel South Classic Golf Tournament in sunny Birmingham, Alabama. More than 70 delegates from all 12 states in the Travel South region joined Kelly Tyner and Stacey Bowman for the bowling event at Lightning Strikes for an afternoon of bowling, food and beverages and big times.
At the same time, 24 guests joined me, publisher Mac Lacy, at Ross Bridge Resort for 18 holes of championship golf on this Robert Trent Jones Trail course just outside Birmingham.
‘We could not have had a better event,’ said Tyner afterwards. ‘Every team was doing cheers, high-fiving, and knocking down a few pins in the process. It was a blast.’
The winning team at the bowling event consisted of Irving and Edythe Harris of Pro-Tran LLC, Evelyn Vasquez of the St. Augustine CVB, Erica Howard of Shreveport-Bossier CVB and Belinda Johnson of Aquarium of the Americas. Congratulations!
The golfers could not have had a better day to be on this magnificent golf course. It was 80 degrees and a bright blue sky–and after a day on the course everyone gathered in the resort to enjoy a few beverages and watch the conclusion of the Masters. Way to go, Phil!
The winning golf team came from nearby, as Ross Bridge General Manager Steve Miller and his long-time golf buddy Dave Bannister lit it up with an 8-under score for the day. I was on their team as well , which made for some serious ribbing from the other players when this team came out on top.
Thanks to Liz Bittner and Travel South USA for providing transportation and logistical help for these two popular events. We love being involved with Travel South USA! And Birmingham once again showed that when it comes to hosting a major meeting of this type–nobody does it better!
How many strikes did we have? Who cares!
Team members are, left to right, Belinda Johnson, Edythe Harris, Irving Harris, Erica Howard and Evelyn Vasquez.
